Maori with Whaea Trish - Powhiri Protocol

Powhiri - What do we need?

We have special visitors coming into our school on Monday.
We will be welcoming them into our school and having a Powhiri at 10am.
A Powhiri is a reason to talk and discuss important issues.

KaiKaranga - Callers
(There are 2 KaiKaranga - 1 representing the Manuhiri and 1 representing the Tangata Whenua)

Manuhiri
These are the visitors.

Tangata Whenua
People of the land. 
We are the Tangata Whenua of our school/land.

Speakers
There will be speakers on both sides (Manuhiri and Tangata Whenua)

Waiata
Songs from both sides.  These are sung after each speaker.
These need to be prepared before the Powhiri.

Koha
A gift.

Kai - Food
Provided by the Tangata Whenua.

Marae
This is the area in front of the Marae.
This is referred to as Noa - Neutral territory.

Wharenui
This is our venue.
Our Wharenui is the school hall.

Subject to speak about
On Monday the subject is our Kura (school).
