We have been looking at Transformation in relation to the Commonwealth Games this term.
Our Enduring Understanding is that: Technology drives Transformation.
We have an Inquiry process that we follow and a culminating task which we present at the end of a unit. We always start with Ignition or Front-Loading sessions.
For our unit of work this term all 7 Kakapo School teachers planned and taught a 45 minute session on 1 theme related to the Commonwealth Games. These included:
- Changes in Sports clothing and running shoes
- Stadiums
- Food and Nutrition related to Professional Athletes
- What is the Commonwealth?
- Training methods
- Environmental changes related to building Stadiums
- Changes in the Commonwealth Games Relay Baton
The purpose of these Ignition sessions is to inspire, excite and get our students thinking about our enduring understanding, as well as the direction they would like to take their inquiry for the term.
The Inquiry Process we follow is:
Deciding - What do I really want to find out? (Writing and asking rich, open-ended questions)
Locating - Where can I find the information I need?
Selecting - What information do I really need?
Organising - How can I best use this information?
Recording - How do I record the knowledge I have gathered?
Presenting - How do I present this information?
Evaluating - What did I learn from this research? Where do I go from here?
We are in the final stages of our Inquiry for this term. The deadline for completion is tomorrow, Friday 18th September.
Each group will be presenting their Culminating Tasks to the class on Monday.
Here are some photos of groups in the final stages.
