Learning Maori with Whaea Trish

We started with Kieran leading our karakia.
Kieran leading our karakia

Nga Rau o te Miro
This is the name of our new Kakapo building.
Whaea Trish taught us our special waiata based on the name of our building.
Thank you Kaumatua Des (Whaea Trish's dad) for writing this for us.

Te kai o te Miro
Te Manu (echo)
E kai ana (echo)
I te Miro
Nona te ngahere
Nona te ngahere

Te Manu (echo)
E kai ana (echo)
I te matauranga
Nona te ao
Nona te ao
Nona te ao
The meaning of this whakatauki is:
The bird who eats from the Miro tree, owns the forest.
The bird who eats from the tree of knowledge will gain the world.

Next we broke into groups of 5 - 6 and played Go Fish in Maori.
